MS Dhoni was born on 7 July 1981 in Ranchi, Bihar (currently Jharkhand) to a Hindu Rajput family. In 1998, MS Dhoni joined the CCL team, CCL advanced to the A division because of his performance. His passion and cricketing talents delighted Deval Sahay, who pushed for his Bihar selection. In 1999-2000, he was named for the senior Bihar Ranji squad aged 18. In the 1998-99 Cooch Behar Trophy, Dhoni scored 176 runs in 7 innings of 5 matches for Bihar Under-19. Dhoni did not make the East Zone Under-19 (CK Nayudu Trophy) or Rest of India (MA Chidambaram Trophy and Vinoo Mankad Trophy) teams.

MS Dhoni was signed by Chennai Super Kings for US $1.5 million (about Rs 6 crore) in the inaugural season of IPL in 2008. He was the most expensive player in the first edition of the IPL. Under Dhoni's captaincy, Chennai Super Kings have won the IPL title twice in 2010 and 2011. He also led his team to victory in the 2010 and 2014 T20 Champions League. However, on 30 April 2022, Jadeja handed the captaincy back to Dhoni. The 2022 season did not go well for CSK and the team was eliminated from the group stage. However, in IPL 2023, Dhoni led CSK to their fifth IPL title. Dhoni's team defeated Gujarat Titans in the final to win the trophy.

MS Dhoni's ODI career: Dhoni came to the international stage at a time when the Indian ODI team was struggling to find a wicketkeeper-batsman. In 2004, MS Dhoni got a chance to play in the Indian cricket team. The 2000s saw Rahul Dravid as the wicketkeeper and then junior-ranked wicketkeeper-batsmen like Parthiv Patel and Dinesh Karthik were named in the team. But they didn't fit into the team combination. But when Dhoni made his mark in the India A team, he was selected for the ODI team for the Bangladesh tour in 2004-05. Dhoni made his ODI debut against Bangladesh at Chittagong on 23 December 2004. However, Dhoni's career did not start well and he was run out for a duck in his ODI debut. He scored 12 and 7 * in the two matches of the series.

Despite an average performance in the series against Bangladesh, Dhoni was picked for the series against Pakistan. Dhoni scored his fifth ODI century. He scored 148 off just 123 balls in Visakhapatnam. Dhoni's 148 surpassed the previous record for the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper and thus began the Dhoni era. On 20 April 2006, Dhoni overtook Ricky Ponting to become the number one batsman in the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen and became the fastest batsman to do so in 42 innings.

Thanks to this brilliant performance, in 2009, he secured the top spot in the ICC ODI batsmen rankings. In 2011, Dhoni led India to the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup with wins over Australia in the quarter-finals and Pakistan in the semi-finals. Dhoni, along with Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh, guided India to victory in the final, chasing down a target of 275 against Sri Lanka. Dhoni ended the match with a score of 91 * with a historic six and won India the World Cup trophy for the second time after a long wait of 28 years. He was awarded the 'Man of the Match' for his outstanding performance in the final of the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

MS Dhoni's Test Career: Dhoni made his Test debut against Bangladesh on 2 December 2005 and scored 30 runs in his first innings.MS Dhoni's performance in the ODI against Sri Lanka opened the doors of Test cricket for him. In December 2005, Dhoni replaced Dinesh Karthik as the wicketkeeper in the Indian Test team. He also holds the record for dismissing the most number of players in a match by an Indian wicketkeeper, which was broken by Wriddhiman Saha in 2018. He scored an unbeaten 24 in his last Test innings.
