After making his acting debut in South films, actor Thalapathy Vijay has now stepped into politics. He also announced the name of his party. The name of his party will be 'Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam'. It was already being speculated that his party would have Kazhagam in its name like other parties. Actor Vijay has announced that he will not be contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He will not support any party.
"We will register our party 'Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam' with the Election Commission. He made it clear that his focus would be on the upcoming assembly elections. His party will enter the electoral fray in the assembly elections in 2026. After Rajinikanth, Thalapathy Vijay is the most popular actor in Tamil cinema.
"I want a government that is corruption-free, secular and progressive. I want to end such politics which runs on religious discrimination, caste divide and corruption. Vijay is not the first actor from Tamil cinema to enter politics. Rajinikanth had also launched his own party, but he later dissolved it.
"In the current political environment, there is a 'corrupt political culture' on the one hand and a 'divisive political culture' on the other. They are an impediment to our unity and progress."
"Politics is not just another career for me; It is a social work of the people... I have been preparing myself for this for a long time by taking lessons from many of us. So, politics is not a hobby for me. This is my deepest desire. I want to involve myself completely in it.''
In a post on Instagram, Vijay said: "It is my long-term intention and desire to help the people of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil community. They gave me the name, fame and everything after my parents. That is why, under our leadership, a political party has been launched with the name 'Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. "
